ORGANIC WORKS NOW GRINDING ITS OWN FLOUR!
In order to improve the quality of our baked goods, ORGANIC WORKS is now grinding its own Quinoa flour. Beginning February 24, all Quinoa-based breads, cookies and desserts will be produced using flour produced at our bakery!
Why mill our own flour?
Simply, demand for Quinoa has overtaken supply. Quinoa is an indigenous crop to high climate countries like Bolivia and Peru. In recent years, Quinoa has become such a popular grain that the pressure to produce and mill Quinoa in these countries has required growers to use land not always suitable for growing the grain, or even worse, razing tropical forests to grow the grain. Furthermore, the demand for Quinoa has resulted in the grain being milled in facilities that are not designated as wheat free or GLUTEN FREE mills. Both issues are of great concern to us. Unlike the organic Brown Rice and organic Buckwheat flours, where we can trace directly to the mills, we are unable to trace to the Quinoa to the facility where it is milled. This is unacceptable to us.
In the past several months, we have discovered an inconsistency in the quality of the Quinoa flour that we have been sourcing from our primary suppliers. In our effort to provide a higher quality product to our customers, we have taken the unique step to mill our own grain here at the bakery. This way we can purchase our Quinoa grain directly from reputable grain brokers able to supply us with the cleanest organic Quinoa available.
This is a first for Organic Works Bakery as we strive to deliver a better, more consistent quality product to our customers.
